“Tokyo Review 015” Toranomon area-7

“Toranomon area” grows as one big business base

“Toranomon Hills Mori Tower” is the name of the office building of Toranomon Hills. It is the tallest office building in Tokyo at this moment. The height of the building is 247 meters(Official Information) and is one meter shorter than Tokyo Midtown, however it is actually 255 meters according to some reliable data. Behind such discreet announcement, there is an assumption that the Tokyo metropolitan government had hesitated to disclose that they had created the tallest building in Tokyo by a public project, but the truth is still uncertain.

As you may all know, in Tokyo, tall buildings are under construction toward the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2020, and in the competition of building height, Toranomon Hills will give the seat away very soon.

As for the access from the subway, at this moment, Toranomon Hills is a five minutes’ walk from Toranomon station of Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, and it is a rare case that there is no direct pedestrian access from a station. However, “Shin-Toranomon station” is now under construction as a new station of the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line. The station will be open partially in 2020, and completed in 2022.

Mori Building is further developing the Toranomon area with the “Toranomon Hills Business Tower” (planned to be completed in 2019, 36 storeys), “Toranomon Hills Residential Tower” (complete in 2021, 54 storeys) in the immediate vicinity of “Toranomon Hills Mori Tower”, and “Toranomon Hills Station Tower” with a height of 265 m, grand floor area of more than 230,000 m2, floor area ratio of nearly 2000%. This will conclude the “Toranomon Hills series”. These four buildings altogether will make a volume of 800,000 square meters including office rental area of 300,000 square meters, commercial facilities of 26,000 square meters scale, and approximately 720 house units with serviced apartments, constituting a major business base.

The “Toranomon Hills Business Tower” is planned to contain a terminal of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) linking the coastal area and the downtown area via the Loop Road No.2 as the main route. I hope that the Tsukiji market problem will not affect the starting operation of this BRT.
