Urban Redevelopment in Hawaii
A number of Japanese visit Hawaii every year. The purposes for the trips are various: healing, expansion of daily life, obtaining inspiration for work, and so on. In this post, I would like to introduce some recent redevelopment projects on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
“Ward Village” is a master plan redevelopment project which has been handled by a major developer in USA, Hayward Hughes Corporation, for 20 years. It is a project with the largest scale of approx. 230,000 square meters in “Kakaʻako district” just on the west side of the Ala Moana Shopping Center.
“Waiea”, a super luxury condominium, caught people’s attention with the sales price of 40 million dollars for the penthouse on the 36th floor. This penthouse has a 936 sqm room, and a 126 sqm lanai with a private swimming pool. On the ground floor, the world-famous Japanese restaurant “Nobu Honolulu” opened last December relocating from Waikiki.
The above mentioned “Waiea” and the planned to be launched “Anaha” (Autumn 2017) are almost sold out. More and more condos such as the Gateway Towers, AE’O, and etc are being sold as well.
In addition, a new public transportation system and its station is planned to be developed. These urban redevelopment projects respecting the nature and culture of Hawaii for a sustainable future-oriented urban environment is becoming an attraction of the world.
