“National Strategic Special Zone” as the main policy for the growth strategy of Japan

National Strategic Special Zone is “An initiative to breakthrough those Opportunity-Narrowing Regulations in order to comprehensively and intensively promote measures to strengthen the international competitiveness of industries and to form core-area for international economic activities, which were addressed intensively up until 2015”.

10 zones nationwide are designated as National Strategic Special Zones. Some zones in the Tokyo area are designated as “Bases for international business and innovation”, and some zones in Kansai area are designated as “Bases for medical innovation and support for challenging human resources”.

This was one of the main policies for the growth strategy of the Second Abe Cabinet responding to the proposal from the Japan Economic Revitalization Headquarters. The themes are spread out to various fields such as agriculture, international tourism, female success and founding support.
