Asian Review 004” Shanghai part4

North Bund, South Bund, Qiantang and Houtang

The gorgeous sight of the Bund of Shanghai has become popular and is influencing the surrounding developments.

The Garden Bridge and Broadway Mansion used to be on the northern end of the Bund, but since 2010 the development of the “North Bund” has progressed. For example, “Hyatt on the Bund” and “The Peninsula Shanghai” which offer high-quality spaces a little bit away from the hustle and bustle of the Bund, provides a great view of Lujiazui. The “South Bund” is also developing through renovation of warehouses.

In 2010, Shanghai World Expo was held on both sides of the Huangpu River, between Nanpu Bridge and Lupu Bridge. This site is going through development. Multi-function complex developments of offices, commercial functions and residential are being conducted. In addition new development sites such as Qiantang (Front shore) and Houtang (Back Shore) are being created, one after another.

All of these developments are part of the policy by Jiang Zemin to relocate all the factories along Huangpu River and to use the urban land for new developments. Shanghai is a city with many faces, influences and discoveries.
